Frequently Asked Questions

Deck shoes are designed for secure, dry footing when sailing. Dubarry deck shoes have shock absorbing soles and superior traction, plus water resistant and dry fast leather which keeps feet as dry as possible on deck. This reduces the risk of injury from slipping and fungal and water related foot infection.

Yes, deck shoes are the same as boat shoes. The name deck shoe is synonymous with boat shoe, that is, non-slip, non-marking leather or canvas shoes with a flat sole in a moccasin or loafer style. If you are a keen sailor but fancy something different, Dubarry makes a range of sailing trainers based on the same boat-safe principles.

Boat shoes are easily slipped on and off, and as such a looser fit gives quick access to your shoes. The lacing system also allows for socks or bare feet depending on your style and the temperature. Instead of traditional shoe lacing you may like to try barrel knot lacing your boat shoes. Laces knotted close to the shoe will secure the fit more tightly. For a looser fit leave a slighter longer length of lace before the knot.

Boat shoes look great with a whole variety of clothing and are a perfect option to all but the most formal occasions. Dubarry deck shoes and chinos are a classic combination and can be worn throughout the year. A linen shirt or polo completes a summer look, while a Dubarry tattersall shirt or warm knitwear is a good winter combination.

The Extra-fit Regatta is the same shoe as Dubarry's Regatta Deck shoe, however the Extra-fit has additional measurement for improved foot entry and allows room for wider feet.

Yes. Dubarry makes a wide fitting deck shoe. The Regatta Extra-fit is a wider fitting moccasin. The Extra-fit style is the same shoe as the standard Regatta but has additional measurement for improved foot entry and allows room for wider feet.

Boat shoes are traditionally and usually worn without socks, but they lend themselves just as well to wearing socks, which gives you two separate looks to suit your activities.

Wearing socks will help absorb moisture if you are planning on casual or physical activity in hot weather when you may sweat. If you prefer the no sock look then there are plenty of ‘no show’ socks on the market that will sit below the shoe line.

Probably the most useful range of shoes you'll find. Smart enough for special occasions, clever enough for high performance and comfortable enough for every day ease. Soft water-resistant leathers and non slip soles, teamed with a range of colours and fits, make the Dubarry deck shoe collection the one for everyone.
