Frequently Asked Questions

Tweed coats and jackets are great winter clothing. With a natural resistance to moisture and wind but also a breathable quality they offer warmth and protection in winter weather. Tweed also lends well to tailoring which offers a smart winter outerwear without compromising protection.

Tweed is made from tightly woven dyed wool which has a natural component, lanolin, that resists moisture. In addition, Dubarry tweed coats and jackets benefit from Teflon® coating which protects against water and dirt. Tweed is not entirely waterproof and should be dried carefully and naturally without applying heat, to retain its shape.

Well looked after tweed should last a very long time. Tweed is tightly woven, making it resistant to snagging and pilling and the lanolin in the yarn has a natural stain resistance. Dubarry tweed coats and jackets benefit from extra Teflon® coating which protects against water and dirt as well. If your tweed gets wet do not apply heat as it can warp the shape but instead, hang your tweed up and let it air dry to keep it in the best possible condition.

A tweed coat is best suited to cooler seasons however tweed can be worn all year round, being appropriate for a number of occasions. Tweed is densely woven so is more frequently worn in autumn and winter, chosen for its warmth, although some tweed is designed to be light-weight and retain less heat, ideal for warmer seasons.

Dubarry tweed jackets come in a number of shapes and styles. From purpose designed shooting jackets to smart tailoring and all-purpose coats. The natural water resistance and warmth of tightly woven wool, makes it a traditional choice for outside country pursuits. The versatility of tweed means that there are coat styles suitable for anything from dog-walking to church services, horse race meetings to shooting.

A wardrobe staple, Dubarry tweed jackets are a must throughout the year. Traditional inspiration, feminine tailoring and beautiful colour tweeds brings polish to casual outfits and perfects sophisticated looks. Pure wool, fully lined with impeccable detailing, these blazers compliment either denim or tweed, shirting or knitwear, ticking the dress code boxes whether you’re out on the town or sussing out the parade ring.
